Wi-Fi is a wireless-technology brand owned by the Wi-Fi Alliance. The Wi-Fi Alliance is a nonprofit international association formed in 1999. With the aim of enhancing the user experience for wireless portable, mobile, and home entertainment devices, the Wi-Fi Alliance's testing and certification programs help ensure the interoperability of WLAN products based on the IEEE 802.11 specification. Currently the Wi-Fi Alliance has over 300 members from about 20 countries around the world, and about 4000 products have received Wi-Fi certification.
